Adventures @ FIVE in Berkeley, CA.

FIVE @ The Hotel Shattuck Plaza, Berkeley CA

It’s been a very long weekend for me and the rainy weather didn’t help much in production either. After lounging around the house for the entire weekend, I was excited for the upcoming outing that me and Lulu scheduled. On Tuesday, Lulu and I met up with Becca of Ruby Press for some good food and drinks. We ended up at this beautiful romantic hotel bar in Berkeley, CA. Located on the urban Berkeleyesque Shattuck Street, finding the classy Hotel Shattuck Plaza was a bit unexpected.  When I walked in, I was pretty much in awe and surprise that there was a place so classy and elegant in this busy and eclectic boulevard. It had sort of a parisienne or romantic feel. I instantly fell in love with this place.

Hotel Lobby

We ended up at the bar, where local commuters were chit chatting and drinking after a long day’s work. The man next to me was enjoying some delicious appetizer while reading Time Magazine. Through the large windows, I can see the rain pouring down hard. Around me were people talking politics, enjoying cocktails, and connecting laptops. This made me feel like I was in another world.

Ari, our bartender was really cool and made us some secret-not-on-the-menu drinks. We both started off with the Chocolate Martini. I thought that was delicious. It had an espresso mocha taste that I know coffee lovers would enjoy. Lulu had the Converter which was this delicious fruity drink which he lit on fire. I ended up with this hibiscus, eldeflower, margarita (forgot one ingredient) that was distinctly tasty and different from what I’m used to. We both had some pulled pork sliders with onion rings that reminded me of sloppy joes. I love my sloppy joes so this was a definitely delish.

We ended up meeting with Becca, one of our PR coordinators and we shared some good laughs and conversations. We ended up talking about some of the events that we’ll be attending, and all of that good stuff. All in all, it was a great meeting and it was great to meet Becca! Me and Lulu are looking forward to working with Ruby Press :) -Daisy

Osha Thai Adventures 03/10

Me and lu ended up competing taking pictures of these peanuts. Anyways, I guess her ass wins.

Essay VS. Osha Thai? Yea right, Osha Thai Wins!

In SF, it is rare to find a swanky lounge/restaurant that has an affordable menu. Thankfully, I discovered Osha Thai a couple of years ago.

Last saturday, I took Lu with me to get some happy hour drinks and eats before meeting up with some other friends. We were working at our day job earlier in the day and I basically had to convince her to forget about her essay and come frolick in the city with me. We went to the lounge on Embarcadero. I love the convenient parking garage. It’s a bitch to find parking in the city. The happy hour menu is amazing. Seven dollar special cocktails!??! Count me in. We started with the lychee martini. Deliciously light and fruity, this martini even came with a magenta orchid floating atop.

You have to order Volcanic Beef. It comes with onion rings!! (Way better then Burger King's)

Girl Talk about Boys Men

We ended up having some girl talk about boys. Correction, Men.  Lu has a boyfriend, and I am the single one. She basically mentors me, and I go in the complete opposite direction. Once you get to know us a little bit in our future posts, you know that our dynamic personalities mesh together but our dating patterns? A complete opposite.  She is my Marshall, and I am her Ted Mosby. She may be my Barney Stinson, minus all the sexcapades.

Pad Thai w/Chicken.

Anyways, we ended up getting a bit buzzed and I got a bit irate at the conversation about men so we ordered some Pad Thai w/chicken and Volcanic Beef. And another drink. I forgot what it’s called, but it was delicious. It had four types of liquor in it, and it was reddish?? I don’t remember. If you ask the bartender, just say, “it has 4 types of liquor, and these two asian chicks had it and said it was delish” Note to foodie: If you ever go to an Osha Thai, order the Volcanic beef. The meet is tender and the sauce is perfect.

After hopping into my jeep wrangler (I gotta name it something, maybe Dundee?), we were well satisfied with our visit to Osha. We ended up venturing off to other places. But that’s all secret for now. Until next time. ;)
